Throughout season 18 many fans wondered if Ellen Pompeo was going to be done with Grey's Anatomy after playing Meredith Grey for going on two decades, but this past Monday Pompeo has opted to put on her scrub cap for yet another season.

ABC revealed that season 19, “will explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning and new characters.”

The renewal comes as a shock to many after Pompeo told Insider last year that, “I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that [Grey’s] should end. I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’ And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'” Yet, reports are suggesting that Pompeo received another salary increase for the upcoming season.

According to Hollywood Reporter, "In its 18th season, Grey’s Anatomy is tied with NBC’s This Is Us as broadcast’s No. 1 series in the all-important adults 18-49 demo. The series is ABC’s highest-rated scripted original and, thanks in part to frequent crossovers, has also helped its firefighter-focused spinoff, Station 19, to become the network’s No. 2 drama overall." This further shows that dispute 18 seasons fans continue to resonate with the show and the character's stories.

One individual saying, “Grey’s Anatomy has a global impact that can’t be overstated. Grey’s touches, and sometimes changes, hearts and minds worldwide through the depth of connection people feel with these characters."
