13 Years of Television, 3 Shows, and 331 Episodes Later -CW's "Legacies" Cancellation Ends Franchise

In what began with a 8 season run between 2009-2017, "The Vampire Diaries" has lead a franchise with millions of fans over the last 13-years. The series aired 171 episodes.

On Rotten Tomato's season 1 scored 71%, season two 100%, season three 90%, season four 69%, season five 100%, season six 79%, season seven 78%, and season eight ended with 100%.

The series developed into its first spin-off, "The Originals."

"The Originals" was a 5 season run that took place between 2013-2018. The main character, Joseph Morgan (Klaus) won the Favorite Actor in a New Series at the Peoples Choice Awards in 2014.

In November 2014, a web series titled The Originals: The Awakening (2014-2014) was released as the fourth show in the franchise. The series explores the character Kol Mikaelson and his relationships with his siblings. Flashing back to 1914, Kol is on a quest to form an alliance with the witches of the French Quarter. Awakening gives answers to some questions about Kol's past, including the origins of his rivalry with his family and the unique backstory he has with the New Orleans witches. Each webisode is approximately two minutes long. The series concluded on December 8, 2014. To date, The Originals: The Awakening is the only web series in The Vampire Diaries franchise. The whole webseries is added to The Originals Season Two DVD as a special feature. Each webisode is 2 minutes long.

On January 27, 2015, the first book in a series of novels based on the show was released, "The Rise, The Loss, and The Resurrection" make up the three novels in The Originals series written by Julie Plec

The Spinoff from "The Originals" was "Legacies." "Legacies" went for 4 seasons from 2018-2022. The series has been called this year as the CW prepares to be sold.
